AWS Overview
An AWS Certification holder will be ahead of the curve as it will soon be a required certification for most companies that increasingly deal with Amazon Web Services. If you want to safeguard against downsizing or want to change professions altogether, having a certification is one sure fire way to guarantee a well paying job. Although I only cover the associate level courses to date, here are the current AWS certifications:
Target Audience - Associate Level
AWS Certified Solutions Architect: designing and deploying scalable, highly available, and fault tolerant systems
AWS Certified Developer: developing and maintaining applications
AWS Certified SysOps Administrator: deployment, management, and operations
Target Audience - Professional Level
AWS Certified Solutions Architect: designing distributed applications and systems
AWS Certified DevOps Engineer: provisioning, operating, and managing distributed application systems
Prerequisites
For the associate level there are no prerequisites but on Amazons site they “recommend” you having 1 year hands on experience. It’s the old catch 22, you need a cert. to get hired, but can’t get the experience needed for the cert. until you’re hired. There are practice labs on Amazon’s site (AWS Free Tier) where you can gain 12 months free experience, but don’t worry, the courses I have recommended here don’t require any prior knowledge. (Some is always helpful though).
