CRISC Certification Overview
The CRISC certification (Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control) is offered by ISACA. It is all about risk at the enterprise level and involves having the comprehension to mitigate the risks by designing, implementing, and monitoring IT controls. This is for the professionals that have “hands on” experience. The other similar certification ISACA has is CISA, which is more about auditing and assessing.

Prerequisites
According to ISACA: “A minimum of at least three (3) years of cumulative work experience performing the tasks of a CRISC professional across at least two (2) of the four (4) CRISC domains is required for certification. Of these two (2) required domains, one (1) must be in either Domain 1 or 2. There are no substitutions or experience waivers.”
Experience must have been gained within the 10-year period preceding the application date for certification or within five years from the date of initially passing the examination. Official CRISC details are on the ISACA site.

Certification Maintenance
To maintain the certification you must earn 120 continuing professional education (CPE) credits over a three-year period following certification or after renewing. You also have to earn a minimum of 20 CPEs annually, and pay an annual maintenance fee ($45 for members and $85 for non-members).
ISACA Membership
The cost for an ISACA membership is $135 US, plus a local chapter fee which varies, plus a $10 new member fee (if you join online). With the membership you save on the exam registration fees, annual maintenance fees, selected events, and review materials.
