Scrum Master Certifications
Scrum is an iterative software development project methodology of Agile. There are three main scrum roles, explained here at a high level:
The Scrum Master facilitates meetings and tries to keep things on track.
The Product Owner represents the business and communicates the needs to the Developers.
The Development Team produces and tests the product.
As mentioned, scrum is an iterative process comprised of breaking the project into “small” sprints, as opposed to the traditional sequential waterfall method used in project management.
There are many different certifications and flavours of agile, with some of the more popular ones presented (at a high level) below, listed by their issuing body.
Scrum Alliance
CSM: The Certified Scrum Master is the most popular and recognised certification. It requires you to take a 2 day course, normally over $1000, but the exam is supposedly not that difficult.
CSPO: The Certified Scrum Product Owner is, as you would guess, aimed specifically for the product owner. You must take a mandatory 2 day course after which you get your certification with no exam required.
The Scrum Alliance also has certifications for developers (CSD) , advanced (CSP), coaches (CEC), leadership (CAL), and trainers (CST).
Exin
ASF: The Agile Scrum Foundation certification is issued by the recognised organization called Exin. There are no prerequisites and the exam is less intense than the PSM.
ASM: The Agile Scrum Master certification expands upon the Foundation level. The Foundation level is not a prerequisite but highly recommended.

PSM 1: The Professional Scrum Master has no training requirements but is a much harder exam to pass.
PSPO 1: The Professional Scrum Project Owner has the same explanation as the PSM 1, except it’s for the project owner. (No prerequisites, harder exam)
They also have PSM 2, PSPO 2, PSD 1 (Developer), and SPS (Scaled Professional Scrum)
I don’t cover the scaled scrum here, but it’s for larger enterprise projects and worth a search if you’re interested.
